Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about Oryx DTR's direct-to-retail platform for manufacturers, retailers, and rep groups.
For Retailers
- Direct-to-Retail means retailers buy directly from manufacturers instead of through distributors. Oryx DTR is the infrastructure that makes that model operational at scale — catalog, ordering, regulated-industry workflows, and settlement in one place.
- Yes. Oryx DTR is built for regulated industry workflows and supports license-based access for license-gated product categories.
- No. Oryx DTR does not replace distributors. It gives manufacturers and retailers a direct, automated way to work together when they choose to.
- No. Oryx DTR connects to your existing e-commerce platform. Your storefront, checkout, and customer experience stay in place.
- No. Oryx DTR works alongside existing ERPs, OMS, WMS, and fulfillment tools. It does not replace them.
- Who is Oryx DTR built for?
- Retailers that sell manufacturer-sourced products and want one reliable way to work directly with brands — live catalogs, wholesale orders, dropship, and settlement — without email, spreadsheets, or a different portal per vendor.
- Is Oryx DTR a fit for independent shops or only large retailers?
- Both. Independent shops and larger multi-store operators use the same platform. You connect the brands you carry and grow from there.
- How do I buy from manufacturers on Oryx DTR?
- Connect to manufacturers you already work with. Once approved, you can use their catalogs, place wholesale orders, and enable dropship where the manufacturer supports it. You can also browse the supplier directory and request access to additional manufacturers.
- What’s the difference between dropship and wholesale ordering?
- With dropship, products list in your store and customer orders route to the manufacturer for fulfillment. With wholesale, you place stock orders through a unified portal. Manufacturers decide which options they support.
- What visibility do I get?
- You see live catalog data, pricing, and inventory from each connected manufacturer, plus order status, wholesale activity, balances, and settlements in one place. No stale spreadsheets and no reconciling a different portal per brand.
- How do payments and settlements work?
- Orders, fees, and balances sit on one ledger and settle on each manufacturer’s terms. ACH is the default. If you pay by card, standard processing fees apply.
- What does Oryx DTR not do?
- Oryx DTR is not the merchant of record for your store, does not set manufacturer pricing, does not warehouse inventory, and does not replace your storefront. You keep the supplier relationship. Oryx makes buying and dropship easier to run.
- Do I need to change my e-commerce platform or workflows?
- No. Oryx DTR connects to standard implementations of major e-commerce platforms and works inside your existing checkout, order, and inventory flow.
- How much does it cost for retailers?
- Oryx DTR is free* for dealers. Manufacturers cover the platform — no subscription and no per-seat charge. If you settle by credit card, standard processing fees apply. If you have cards on file and automated payments enabled, we ask for at least $1,000/mo in wholesale orders; in any month below that, a $25 account maintenance fee applies. If you do not have cards on file, or automated payments are not enabled, the account maintenance fee does not apply. Your Oryx contact can walk through the details.
- How long does onboarding typically take for retailers?
- Usually fast. Once the store is connected and any required license documentation is in place, access can be granted as soon as a manufacturer approves you.
- What’s required from my team to get started as a retailer?
- An existing e-commerce platform, required license documentation where it applies, and approval from the manufacturers you want to buy from. Your storefront and checkout stay as they are.
- When can I get started?
- As soon as a manufacturer approves your access and your store connection is complete. Setup time depends on platform and configuration.
- Do I keep my existing supplier relationships?
- Yes. Those relationships stay yours. Oryx is how you operate them — catalogs, orders, dropship, and balances — without handing the account to someone else.
- Can I choose who I work with on the platform?
- Yes. You choose which manufacturers you request. Manufacturers control catalog access. Both sides opt in.
- Are there long-term contracts?
- No long-term contracts. You can start, add brands, or adjust how you buy as the business changes.
- Can I start with a subset of products or partners?
- Yes. Most retailers start with a few manufacturers or a slice of a catalog and add from there.
- Can I pause or change my setup later?
- Yes. You can disconnect a manufacturer, pause dropship on your store, or change payment method without rebuilding your stack.
- Can I go live in phases?
- Yes. Turn on one brand, one catalog, or dropship first and expand when you are ready.
- Can I grow into more advanced workflows over time?
- Yes. Many retailers start with wholesale orders from a few manufacturers and later add dropship, more brands, and a single ordering workflow across their vendor list.
